Expectations

Besides my Motorola smartwatch, I want a lightweight smart band to monitor my sleep and my heart rate. I expect a longer battery life than my watch and more details that my first fit band.

Test

Turn on the watch, download the Lenovo app on the telephone and connect with Bluetooth. Bluetooth can’t be turned off at the band so it’s always on, and the phone finds the band automatically.

The main features of the app are divided into activity, sleep and heart rate.

  • activity displays the steps, distance and burned kcal (calculation based on your profile info)
  • sleep is divided into deep sleep, light sleep and wake up.
  • every 15 minutes your heart rate pulse is monitored.

I went to Copenhagen for a city trip of three days and took the band with me.
The band was on every day, it was warm but the band wasn’t sweating or irritating at all.
I took some showers with the band on and of course, I slept with it.

During the day I was looking at my arm, but outside you see nothing on the display. So when I was inside I checked the statistics. But the statistics are not as nice as possible. It shows only the last stats, so you can’t make an export or compare it to another day because you can’t go back in days.
Steps, heart rate and sleep statistics seems to be accurate, I can’t professional test it but I have checked it multiple times a day.

Build Quality & Design

The design is simple but effective and it even fits my small arm.
The way you can charge the band is clever, but taking off the strap isn’t that easy.

Usability

Battery life is an enormous plus. And the fact you don’t need a converter to charge is great.
OLED display only can display two colors, which is fine but it’s only visible when you are inside. When you walk outside the display is not readable.

Take a shower or a swim and you don’t have to think about taking off the band.

Customizability

My screen had some scratches after 3 days walking in the city. The strap is still fine, but when your strap is damaged you can’t replace it easily.

Alternatives

When you are looking a wearable that supports apps, lets you view messages and you want to use the wearable as an extension of your phone, you should choose a smartwatch. If your primary goal is monitoring your health than you should choose a smart band.

For the price that Lenovo asks for this band you can’t complain about the cons.
